5 Easy Last-Minute Halloween Costumes

I say this every year, but I can’t believe it’s’ already Halloween!  For me, Halloween kicks off the unofficial Holiday season.  For instance, after this is usually Diwali, then Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.  It’s one of my favorite holidays solely because I love to create and come up with different types of costumes each year.

I usually don’t purchase a costume since they tend to be expensive.  I rarely purchase a costume, it must be for a good reason.  My costumes are almost always created from things in my closet with additions of Halloween accessories.  If you checked out my Halloween Costume Ideas post from last year, you’ll notice that the costume ideas I presented were easy to recreate- especially last minute.  That post did so well last year that I wanted to create another last-minute Halloween costume ideas post.  Check out my last-minute costume ideas below.

Alexis Rose (Schitt’s Creek)

If you have not watched Schitt’s Creek yet, then stop reading this post and go binge the show immediately.  I can’t say enough good things about that show.  It’s underrated, the comedy is amazing, and I love that it was a family project from the Levys’.  The characters are also iconic and so are their fashion styles.

Alexis is one of my favorite characters from the show and I wanted to be her for Halloween last year.  For Alexis’s character, she was very “boho chic” with her wardrobe.  Lots of loose-fitting dresses, florals mixed with velvets, and knee-high boots.

For my Alexis costume, I found a shirt on Amazon with her catchphrase “____ David”, with a boho-shirt, some cute booties, and curled hair.  I felt like this costume described Alexis the best.  My husband decided to be David Rose, to compliment my costume, so he wore a “Nonchalance shirt” with white-rimmed glasses.

Mean Girls Mouse

Unlike the usual costume with headgear (like kitty ears, bunny ears, etc), adding a cute outfit, fun makes, and calling it a costume, this is a fun take on that theme.  For me, I always wanted to do a Mean Girls costume. In fact, I did one last year and mentioned it in my Halloween blog post from last year.  However, I always wanted to have a fun take on the Mean Girls poking fun at the bunny ears costume.

For this costume, I got a plain black shirt and Iron-on letters from Michaels and Ironed on the quote “I’m a Mouse, duh!” on the shirt.  This costume is such a fun costume and since Mean Girls is so iconic, it was loved by everyone.  The quote was loved by many, and it was such a hit at previous Halloween parties! In addition, this costume is also work-appropriate so you can wear it to your work costume party (as I did, notice my work badge).

My fun take on a Mean Girls costume.

Ketchup and Mustard

This costume is one of the few costumes that I have purchased.  Now, it may not be a creative costume made from items in your closet, but it is a last-minute costume.  You can find these types of costumes at any Halloween store or Amazon (if you have Prime then you can purchase it within 48 hours).  More often than not, costumes like these are usually available at the store when the good costumes are sold out.

In addition, if you’re looking for something easy and last-minute then it’s an easy costume to wear.  All you must do is wear comfortable clothing underneath (I just wore my PJ’s) and do some fun make-up.  It’s also a funny costume and will be the life of the party!

Peanut Butter and Jelly

I love a classic Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich!  So, you know I had to make a costume out of it.  My husband doesn’t like to get all dressed up in a costume, so I have to get creative with costumes.  Most peanut butter and jelly costumes on Amazon were something you had to wear as a costume.

For me, I got creative and bought a plain brown shirt (the peanut butter) and a plain purple shirt (the jelly) from Michaels.  I also bought Iron-On letters and just ironed on the “Peanut Butter” and “Jelly” words on the shirts.  I created this costume the night before a Halloween party and was impressed with my craft.

If a not-so-creative person, like myself, can create a costume as such, you can do it do.  It was such a simple yet creative costume and the hit of the party!  So, when creating a last-minute costume, think outside the box and get creative with it!

Superhero

If you’re like me, you have tons of Superhero pajamas for no reason.  Well, you can easily take one of your superhero pajama tops and make it into a costume.  As I mentioned above, I don’t usually purchase costumes, so this is a fun take on getting to do a superhero costume without wearing one.

Feel free to wear any type of make-up, the more elaborate the make-up, the better.  Have fun with your hair, wear some fun bottoms, and have fun with it!  It’s simple, last-minute yet fun.
