Blogger Tips:  How to Find Your Target Audience

For many bloggers (and/or content creators and influencers), one of the biggest struggles is finding a consistent target audience that will keep coming back to see new content from you.  Most bloggers will have a steady number of readers, but they want to make sure that they have a local target audience that will continue to come back to their blog.  It’s a constant struggle of trying to maintain the current audience but also attract a new audience.

In that sense, that is why maintaining a target audience is one of the best ways to have a consistent audience that will always come back and read your new blog posts.  I’ve also struggled with having a target audience.  So, I thought to share the tips and tricks that I have learned over the years on how to find your target audience. Anyway, without further ado, check out my tips on how to find your target audience for your blog (and or other social media platforms).

Fellow Bloggers in the Same Niche

One way to find a target audience is to look at other fellow bloggers in your niche.  Go to their social media platforms and see the type of audience that follows their content.  This will help you not only cater to the same audience but become better at also keeping that same audience.  If you stick to a similar type of content and engagement as your fellow bloggers in the same niche, then you will be able to find that target audience.

I’ve always struggled with trying to find a target audience within my niche.  So, looking at fellow bloggers within my niche helped me create content that would attract the same audience.  Once I catered my content to that audience, they automatically started to come to my blog and other social media platforms.

Google Search

One of the easiest yet time-consuming ways to find a target audience is to search on Google.  However, this is not your usual google search to help you come up with content or to provide your ideas of what trends are coming.  This type of Google search is to help you see what your target audience might be searching for.

For instance, if you’re a food blogger that focuses on baked goods.  Then you might google “easy Halloween treats”.  This will show you what type of content comes up and who is reading that type of content.  Thus, it will allow you to get a better understanding of how to cater to an audience that is searching for your type of content.

I’ve always stood by doing a good google search or “google analysis” for your social media platforms.  I’ve done a google search on future blog posts that I want to write about and cater my blog posts to have similar search words in the posts.

Social Media

Saving the best tip for last, which is using social media to find your target audience.  It goes without saying that you should use social media.  However, most people forgot how powerful social media can be especially in the Content Creator world.  Each type of social media platform has its pros and cons but you should learn how to use them to your advantage.  I’ve listed some bigger social media platforms below, and tips on how to find your target audience with them.

  • Facebook:  Most people might assume that Facebook is becoming more of a dead social media platform.  However, that is not the case, and the opposite is happening.  More people are using Facebook than before but for a different reason.  The Facebook marketplace has helped the social media platform maintain its audience.  In addition, Facebook groups have become more useful than ever before.  There are Facebook groups for everything – including those content creators and building an audience.  So, search for the type of content creator Facebook group you’re looking for and utilize it to your advantage by building a target audience.
  • Instagram:  For years, Instagram had been the number one platform for Content Creators to help them build a target audience.  While Instagram has not been doing well lately, it’s still a good platform to create a target audience.  One of the easiest ways to build and keep a target audience on Instagram is to make sure your Instagram stories are engaging.  Have polls, ask questions, add links to your blog posts, and engage with your audience on Instagram stories.  This will make them feel like a part of your life thus they will keep coming back to your content to see more.
  • Pinterest:  Pinterest is one of the most underused social media platforms, yet it is one of the most powerful ones out of all the social media platforms.  This is because Pinterest is a search engine and social media platform combined into one.  Rather than using it like a social media platform, use it like a search engine such as Google.  When you search for the content that you want to create then you can see what others are creating and how to target the same type of audience.  Try to make similar pins on your Pinterest page to attract the same target audience as well.

And those are my tips and tricks on how to create a target audience.  Were any of these tips helpful to you?  Let me know in the comments below!
