It is that time of the year again- when the season sparkles and the holiday cheer is in full gear (yes, I planned to rhyme that)! Every year, I am stunned by how quickly the year has flown by and we are at the tail end of it by the Holiday time. While I love this time of the year because of all of the Holiday happiness, I am always shocked by how quickly November and December approach us.
With that being said, the Holiday season comes with many types of holiday parties as well. I am always struggling with what to wear to each holiday party. Whether that is a work holiday party or one with friends or one with the family- finding what to wear to each event can be stressful. Especially since there are so many holiday party events, you want to make sure you bring your holiday spirit to each event. Even though I have done this post in the past few years (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018), I thought I would share some new types of outfits for the 2022 Holiday season. Without further ado, check out my Holiday Party Outfit ideas below.
Chunky Sweater
A chunky sweater is a winter wardrobe staple- especially if you live in a colder climate area. However, I know most people are confused about how to style a chunky sweater for a holiday party. Firstly, a chunky sweater is only appropriate for certain types of holiday parties- usually the more casual ones with your friends. On a side note, I love to wear a chunky sweater to holiday parties because it allows me to stay warm yet look dressed up at the same time.
For this type of look, I have paired by chunky sweater over a classic little black dress. I added fun earrings, tights, and red booties (for some pop of color). The outfit is fun and still has a holiday feel. To make it feel more like a holiday party outfit, I opted for red earrings and red lips. I love tying in red accessories with a rather neutral outfit for any kind of holiday party look.
Ethnic Attire
Adding ethnic attire to my list of Holiday Party outfit ideas is a new option. Over the past couple of years, I have noticed that ethnic looks and combo ethnic looks have been trending more lately. This type of look is perfect for that South Asian family holiday party. Alternatively, you can wear the Indo-Western outfit option as a fun look for a friend’s holiday party.
In addition, with the success of the ethnic outfit suggestion in my Thanksgiving Outfits post, I thought to include this option in my Holiday Party lookbook as well. For those interested in more details about my ethnic looks, I have a whole post about Indo-Western party looks on the blog already. The post goes into more detail about a couple of different ethnic holiday party looks, so make sure to check it out.
For this type of look, I like to opt for holiday colors but from my ethnic wardrobe. I will not go into many details about my look since I have a whole post about it. However, I will mention the basics in this post. Since I wanted a holiday color, I went for a dark navy blue Kurta (long top) and Sharara (flowy pants). I added fun Indian accessories and nude heels to go with the ethnic look. I also turned the look into an Indo-Western look by wearing just the Kurta as a dress.

Sequins & Sparkles
Give me all the holiday sparkles and sequins! To be honest, sequins and sparkles are my favorite type of holiday outfits to wear! They come in many different types of forms and always bring a huge smile to my face. My holiday cheer comes out every time I am in a nice sparkly or sequined holiday party outfit. It’s such a classic holiday style but it never goes out of style.
For this look, I paired a holiday green sequin top with pleather pants. I have been looking for a good pair of pleather pants since they have been all the rage for the past few fall/winter seasons. I believe pleather pants should be a wardrobe staple. Anyway, for my accessories, I added fun sparkly gold earrings and suede booties. I wanted all the attention on my top so I kept everything else very neutral.

Sweater Dress
Another classic winter wardrobe staple is the sweater dress. I have quite a few sweater dresses myself and love to wear them each cold season. However, wearing a sweater dress to a holiday party is tough. Since most sweater dresses look very casual, it is hard to wear them to a party. The key to wearing a sweater dress to a holiday party is to find a dressy one and to go bold with the accessories. This type of look can be worn to both a family and a friend’s holiday party.
For this look, I have a gray midi sweater dress. I have dressed it up by adding red earrings, red booties, and a classic red lip. Occasionally, I will add a hair clip to add some flair to my hair as well. You can add a light sweater on top of the dress as well, for some color and warmth.
Ugly Sweater
The classic and most fun holiday party look is the Ugly Sweater. Quite honestly, these sweaters tend to be more funny and cute rather than ugly. Regardless, the Ugly Christmas Sweater party has been such a trend for Millennials and Gen-Z that it has now become a holiday party staple. I am a huge fan of the Ugly Sweater trend and love this type of theme!
For this look, I have kept it casual. I paired my ugly Christmas sweater with a classic pair of blue jeans. For accessories, I like to wear some holiday-themed earrings just to be in the Holiday spirit. As far as shoe options go, I will either go with a black pair of boots/booties or my red boots/booties. The more holiday cheer you have, the better for this type of outfit.
Bonus: Holiday Pajamas
Last but not least, another holiday party favorite- the holiday pajamas. I love a good pajama party, especially in the holidays. My friends and I usually do one Holiday pajama party during the Holiday season so; I wanted to include this option in my list as well. However, I know that not everyone has Holiday pajama parties so I have included this option as a “bonus”.
For this type of outfit, I opt for any fun Holiday pajamas to wear to the Holiday pajama party. As for accessories, I will wear house slippers, plain earrings (usually studs), and maybe have on a classic red lip. You can go as dressy or as casual as you like for the Holiday pajama look.
Finally, those are all of my Holiday Party Outfit ideas. Which one of these Holiday Party Outfit ideas was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
