In the day and age of short-form video content, such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, most people are wondering if blogging is still relevant. I’ve wondered the same myself. While we do have lots of people consuming their content via short-form videos, others still like the traditional form of media which is blogs. A lot of people still read blogs for inspiration, advice, tips, etc. I know that blogging has been slowing down in the past few years. However, most people are still a fan of this traditional form of social media. Anyway, check out my reasons below for why blogging is still relevant in 2023.
Appears First in Google Searches
Believe it or not, blog posts are still the first to show up in Google searches. Bloggers have spent countless hours working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques for their blogs, myself included. It’s no wonder that these blogs still appear at the top of any Google search.
For example, if you are to search for “summer salads” on Google, the first couple of searches will be a blog post from a food blogger with a recipe for this type of salad. Google still works best for bloggers and blog posts thus, this form of media will still be around for a while.
Top Form of Media Used
According to a report by HubSpot, blogging is still one of the top forms of media used at this moment. While video is still the number one choice, blogging comes to a close second choice for a lot of people. As mentioned, since people still use Google to search for things, blog posts show up in those Google searches. Thus, allowing for such blog posts to still be relevant even today.
I’ve contemplated over the years if I should continue to post on my blog or focus more on Instagram/TikTok. However, each algorithm change between both of those social media platforms keeps making me come back to continue to post on my blog. In addition, if anything happens to those apps (i.e. shut down, temporary ban, etc), I don’t have any control over my account. Whereas, with my blog, I own the domain and the rights to this blog thus, I can control the way I run things on here. Thus, owning a blog gives most bloggers more freedom to do what they want with the platform.

Use as a Form of Business
Finally, most people also use a blog as a form of business. People post their boutiques, baking goods, etc to their blogs. It’s helped these people grow their audience and continue to run their businesses profitably. Lots of people also reach new audiences which also allows them to grow their business even further. The business growth model from blogs has been proven profitable for many business owners. Thus, people will continue to use blogs as a form of business and therefore, blogs will still be relevant moving forward.

I hope you enjoyed my reasons for why blogging is still relevant in 2023! Which one of these reasons surprised you? Let me know in the comments below!
Much Love,

You made some valid points and arguments on why blogging is not dead, but rather evolving and adapting to the changing times. I agree that blogging is still a powerful and creative way to express yourself, connect with others, and share your knowledge and passion.
Thanks Supraja! I appreciate your honest thoughts.

I would say blogging is still very relevant in 2023.
Back in the 1960s you had magazines like Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, True Romance, True Detective and Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine for those who enjoyed reading short stories and short articles.
They were the TikTok and Instagram of the reading world back in the day.
But you could also read the novels of the great classic authors like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens back in the day as well as then popular contemporary novelists of the day like Harold Robbins (now virtually forgotten today and deservedly so).
They were the equivalent of the world of blogs at that time (with some having more meat and substance than others).
Letters to the editor of a newspaper were the equivalent of tweets where people could offer brief rants and brief commentary.
So I say blogs will continue to survive and remain relevant.
Like you say blogs continue to show up first in Search Engine results.
I love your perspective and insight on this topic, Dracul! This is a good way to put it. Thanks for your wise words.
You’ve mentioned some very very valid points. Especially the fact that the blog is your own. I feel the same way. Plus I’ve learned so much from reading blogs alone!
